外傳新一代iPhone（暫稱iPhone 8）即將在9月發布，可能會有3D感應器，搭配臉部辨識新功能，但最近傳出訊息，iPhone 8的3D感應器真正用意似乎不在臉部辨識，而是有更遠大目標，讓AR平台計畫能向前推進。
3D感應器利用雷射技術，判斷物體距離遠近，原本猜測蘋果將用於臉部辨識，但蘋果日前公布ARKit平台，讓3D感應器想像更多，如果設置在手機背面，將可測量手機與周遭物體距離，更方便AR展現虛實結合。
度假別墅目前開始有消息傳出，蘋果正在嘗試名為VCSEL技術，希望能放在iPhone 8相機內，藉由雷射發出與接收，分析手機與周遭物品距離，讓AR效果更加栩栩如生，使用者打開AR功能時，手機可以加快虛擬圖像與現實環境契合。

另一方面，3D感測器不僅用於AR，雷射能讓手機相機對焦更快，以往傳統相位對焦，系統會判斷光線進入感應器不同差異，決定對焦準確與否，但是導入雷射系統後，對焦速度就會提升到毫秒差別。
距離iPhone 8發布日期越來越近，硬體設計應該不會有太大變化，無線充電與OLED螢幕似乎有很大機率，會在新手機上使用，3D感應用於臉部辨識應該也不會有意外，但是用於AR或拍照，就要看蘋果對於iPhone 8有多少期待。
